Some pictures
Picture of me infront of the display wall they got over at the Department of Computer Science, University of Tromsø.
Here's another picture of the display wall with some python hacker code. The big window to the right shows some code for a "game" that was going to use the entire screen and also be able to support multiple people playing from different computers.
The display wall is a kind of a cool setup. It consists of 7x4 Dell projectors that are mounted on the back of the screen, each projector showing 1024x768 resolution, giving a total of 230 inches screen or 7168 x 3072 pixels. Each projector is connected to their own computer that is responsible for showing the image for that tile, so there are 28 projectors and 28 computers behind the screen. It is possible to use VNC to get a complete desktop of KDE and show a lot of windows. Also for more number crunching visual tasks one can hook up two clusters each with 50 PCs and each PC with a 3.2 GHZ processor, everything is connected with a gigabit switch.
It's all fun except your eyes gets a bit "sunburned" stearing at that thing for many hours. Some more pictures of the Tromsø Display Wall . I am actually on the first picture under "Paper presentation", sitting, number two from the right. There is also a little video clip about this thing (I am not in it) - actually it is about recruitment to computer science studies.
